5 start-ups nominated for the Hospitality UPGRADE Award 2020
hotelforum is presenting the Hospitality UPGRADE Award to technically-sophisticated young companies for the third time together with the Gastgewerbe Magazin. This is the first time that GNERATOR powered by GIRA will be acting as a mentor and guide from the industry. A 12-member advisory board has nominated five start-ups from among the international applications, and they will compete against one another for the Hospitality UPGRADE Award in the techno-pitch as part of the hotelforum conference on 7 October in front of an expert jury.
Andreas Martin, Managing Director of hotelforum management GmbH: “Together with the magazine Gastgewerbe, we have been supporting young companies for three years now which use digital technologies to develop innovative solutions for the hotel industry and beyond. With 31 applicants from nine countries, the first-time partnership with a mentor from the industry, and the work of the broad, interdisciplinary advisory board, have obviously had a very positive effect. It will be an exciting final in Munich!” Applications have come in from 31 start-ups from Germany, the United Kingdom, Israel, Canada, Croatia, Lithuania, Macau, Austria and Switzerland.
Advisory board member Markus Fromm-Wittenberg, start-up ambassador for the mentor GNERATOR powered by GIRA: “All the applications reflect the spirit of the founding teams in their search for innovation, and therefore the selection and subsequent nomination was a neck-and-neck race. We are looking forward to the pitches in Munich so that we can then decide on the winner”.
The following start-ups made it onto the hotelforum stage on 7 October at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof (in alphabetical order):
- Avisio, Vienna (Digital merchandise management platform)
- Hotellistat, Munich (Market analyses digitalised with revenue management)
- Room.Building.Partner, Bremen (Digital spatial hotel planning in 3D)
- Squarelovin, Hamburg (Visual marketing & storytelling)
- Tutaka, Hamburg (Central purchasing platform with a sustainable footprint)
Christian Fiedler, from Gastgewerbe magazine and spokesperson of the hotelforum start-up jury: “The huge challenges facing the hospitality market today require new thinkers and doers. Many companies need to overhaul and rethink their business models along digital lines. And this is exactly where the Hospitality UPGRADE Award comes in, providing start-ups that have the potential to revolutionise this market with a platform on which they can become more visible in the industry”.
Martin Stockburger, Managing Director of Koncept Hotels and Kurator: “This year in particular, it is more important than ever to find new solutions for our industry! I was very impressed by some of the submissions because they will help the hotel and catering industry to make lasting progress. There are real innovations here!”
Start-ups were eligible to participate that have innovative digital products or services for the hospitality industry, were established within the last five years, and can present a scalable business model. The winner of the Hospitality UPGRADE Award 2020 will receive network access in the GNERATOR powered by GIRA via a fellowship with mentoring. An exhibitor space at hotelforum 2021, as well as a one-year junior membership of the Hotel Properties Working Group, will also be provided free of charge.
